What is it about? Criminology is an interdisciplinary field in the social sciences, drawing especially upon the research of sociologists, but with important contributions from the fields of anthropology, psychology, law, history, etc. The programme seeks to promote an understanding of how and why crime occurs, including both individual, group and community factors. It also provides a framework for learning about the process and operations of the criminal justice system from the point of contact with the police through to imprisonment.

The programme is useful for students who wish to assume a professional position in the criminal justice system and anyone else having a general interest in crime and its control.
