What is it about? | The Programme features two key components: The "language'" component focuses on the study and research of the Chinese language from the perspective of linguistics, while the "literature" component encompasses topics in classical and modern Chinese literature, literary theory, literary history, as well as creative writing. Courses are normally taught in Chinese. The Programme provides students with the analytical skills to critically evaluate and appraise scholarly views on controversial issues in Chinese language and literature. The language courses provide students with an understanding of the structure and evolution of Chinese language, as well as its cognitive and social functions in communicative and interactional contexts. The literature courses enable students to read and interpret literary works of different periods and genres, to gain a sound knowledge in relevant intellectual development, and to develop an appreciation for the aesthetics encompassed in Chinese literature. Graduates of the Programme are not only equipped with a high proficiency in the Chinese language, but also have a comprehensive understanding of a broad range of subjects in Chinese studies. |
