What is it about? The Gender Studies Programme includes the study of gender as a subject and as a category of analysis. The subject gender includes gender relations and identities, women, and sexualities. As a category of analysis, gender interrogates cultural production, and social systems, intersecting with other categories of social difference, such as sexuality, race, ethnicity, class and ability, to critically analyse structures of knowledge and systems of power. The Gender Studies major/minor programme follows a structured academic core programme through which students learn about gender in the contexts of Hong Kong, the region, and the world. Students have the flexibility to explore gender as subject or as a mode of analysis through a range of courses in the Faculty of Arts, and in other faculties, such as Law and Education. The Gender Studies major/minor encourages hands-on learning, and majors are encouraged to pursue an internship.
