What is it about? The European Studies Programme is an interdisciplinary area studies programme which focuses on European politics and governance, history and culture, Europe's economy and its role in the world, as well as its intellectual tradition, philosophy, and literature. The programme provides a comprehensive and holistic introduction to Europe and the European tradition. This programme is designed to provide students with the opportunity to develop their expertise on European affairs, acquire sound knowledge of key developments in human history and institutions that emanated from Europe, critically reflect on the contemporary challenges Europe faces, assess the changing ways how Europe has engaged with the world including Asia and China, and analyze and apply the ideas and philosophical traditions that emerge out of Europe. The focus is on interdisciplinary learning. There is also a language requirement which enables students to become conversant in one European language of their choice, thereby allowing for a more concise appreciation of the culture and society of one particular European country.
