What is it about? The programme combines intensive training in Japanese language with a range of disciplinary and interdisciplinary perspectives into Japanese history, literature, society, and culture. Students follow a core language pathway for three years, developing a high level of proficiency in Japanese while simultaneously enriching their understanding of Japan through a diverse selection of elective courses taught in Japanese and English.

Pre-requisite requirements and/or other conditions for declaring the major/minor Major:
Without prior knowledge in Japanese: A grade of C+ or above in JAPN1011, JAPN1088 and JAPN1099

With prior knowledge in Japanese: A grade of C+ or above in JAPN1011 and students are required to take a placement test to determine their level of entry into the core language pathway.
