What is it about? The Department of Comparative Literature teaches literary, film, and cultural texts across national and linguistic divides. We introduce students to textual and contextual analysis, drawing on critical and cultural theories and making them accessible and applicable to further studies as well as to life and work. Students learn to see the world around them through diverse texts, mediums, and ways of seeing. We emphasize student writing and self-learning as much as formal lectures and student-discussion. Students graduate with greater cultural literacy, enhanced writing, reasoning, and communication skills, and an ability to think critically and independently.
